Central Florida Y, Heart of Florida United Way get ‘one-in-a-lifetime’ donations from MacKenzie Scott

At least two Central Florida charities have received what are being called “once-in-a-lifetime” grants from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, the former wife of Jeff Bezos – the Heart of Florida United Way and the YMCA of Central Florida. Two days ago, Scott announced she was giving $4.2 billion in pandemic aid to 384 organizations across the country, including six-figure gifts to several Florida charities. Though neither the United Way nor the Y are saying yet how much they’ll get, in Gainesville, for instance, Santa Fe College reported it is receiving $40 million, the largest grant in its history.
